calendar - March
This is the view of March on my coffee calendar.
Scientists made a lot of studies to see if there is a relationship between coffee (caffeine) consumption and some medical conditions.
As usual they are a little contradictory: some say that there is no specific health benefit, others say that there might be harmful effect on our body. All depends also of the method of preparation.
It seems that using paper filters (and not the metal filters) removes the oily components of cafestol (this is a diterpene molecule more present in unfiltered drinks as Turkish or Greek coffee than in drip brewed coffee), and these molecules are associated with increased risk of coronary heart disease.
Some studies showed that a consumption of 3-5 cups a day would stop developing dementia years later … And we don’t have to forget that there are some antioxidants in coffee beans, and that’s good to prevent the free radicals from causing cell damage.
So for what I know …
it’s increasing my morning wake-up-process and my memory performance,
it tastes good with a little sugar and a drop of milk,
and to me that’s the best benefit J
By the way, did you know that the paper coffee filters were invented in Germany by a woman called Amalie Melitta Bentz in 1908?
She did experiences using blotting paper from the school book of her son and a brass pot perforated using a nail … and decided to set up a business!
And now I’m going to prepare my visit to Köln of Saturday …
