Start with little chain, sc all around, 2sc in each of the four corners, when base is double of desired size, start crochet in spiral and go up. For flap: go on with half of stitches (back-return) and decrease. You can adapt tube-form by increasing and decreasing in the spiral rows.

and then ... machine wash on 60° for felting!
    this one shrunk about 45%...

    bits & pieces #2

This is an UFO  (Un-Finished-Object)   becoming a WIP (Work-In-Progress)  and finishing now as an accomplished wallquilt. It is one of the two quilts I'll expose in Strombeek-Bever, at the CC during the 2-week exhibition of Grimbergens Artists from 5th till 22nd of June 2009.

It is a combination of different textile materials : the basic is a quilt (batik quilted with embroidery stitches on the machine). The center is a piece of felted wool (mixture of fine merinos and other types ) in white and blue tones where I added white silk threads on the top. I added a lot of details to embellish it :  little lace-pieces figuring owls I partly tainted blue, glittering little buttons, a ric-rac-braid I crocheted with cashmere wool,  and a few 'big-boned'  hand-embroidery stitches with a glittering thread.
